Settings reference

A lookup companion for every option in SmartDingo Form Tracker, screen by screen. For each setting
you get what it does, its default value, and the plan it needs. The plugin has four admin pages under
SmartDingo Form Tracker: Settings, Leads, Privacy, and Tools. This page covers
the options on Settings, Privacy, and Tools (the Leads page is documented in
Managing leads).

Note Plan badges below mean: (Free) everyone, (Starter) any paid plan, (Pro)
Pro only. Options with no badge are available on all plans. Each page has its own Save Settings
button — saving one page does not save the others.

Tracking Fields

Checkboxes that select which data points are captured and stored in the visitor’s browser. Only
enabled fields can be mapped to a form field
in the Form Configurations section below. Fields above
your plan are shown but disabled, with a Starter or Pro badge.

  • Default: a set of common UTM and visitor fields is pre-enabled on activation. You can turn any
    available field on or off.

The fields are organized into five groups. Their plan tiers are fixed:

GroupFieldsPlan
UTM ParametersUTM Source, Medium, Campaign, Term, Content(Free)
 UTM ID(Starter)
First-Touch AttributionFirst UTM Source, Medium, Campaign, Term, Content(Starter)
Ad Platform ParametersGoogle Click ID (gclid)(Free)
Facebook (fbclid), Microsoft (msclkid), Google Ads Source (gad_source), gbraid, wbraid(Starter)
 LinkedIn (li_fat_id), X/Twitter (twclid), TikTok (ttclid)(Pro)
Affiliate / ReferralReferral ID (ref), Affiliate ID(Pro)
Extra TrackingLanding Page, Device Type, Visit Timestamp, Referrer URL, Search Term, Conversion Page(Free)
Referrer Category, Visited Pages, Visitor Type(Starter)
Pages Viewed Count, Session Duration, Visit Count(Pro)

In total: 12 fields on Free, 26 on Starter, 34 on Pro (each tier includes the ones below it).

Maximum pages to track (sub-setting of Visited Pages)

Appears directly under the Visited Pages field. Sets how many of the visitor’s most recent page
paths are stored for that field.

  • Default: 10.
  • Range: 1 up to your plan’s maximum (10 / 30 / 50 — see the limits table below). Values above
the cap are clamped down on save.

Storage Type

Radio buttons that choose where tracking data is kept in the visitor’s browser.

OptionWhat it doesPlan
localStoragePersists across tabs and browser sessions — best for multi-page journeys and returning visitors.(Starter)
sessionStorageCleared when the tab closes — best for single-session attribution.(Free)
  • Default: localStorage. On the free plan the localStorage option is disabled, so free sites
effectively use sessionStorage (a saved localStorage choice is forced to sessionStorage without a
    paid plan).

Note Visitor Type, Visit Count, and the internal visitor identifier always use localStorage,
even when sessionStorage is selected. This is required to recognize returning visitors across
sessions.

Form Configurations

Where you map tracked data to the fields of a real form using CSS selectors. Create one
configuration per form
; every configuration is tried on every page.

Each configuration has:

  • A name (free-text; blank names are saved as “Unnamed Form”).

  • Mapping rows, each with a Tracked Field (only enabled fields are selectable), a CSS
    Selector
    (e.g. #field-id, .field-class, input[name="utm_source"], [data-name="field"]),
and a Hide checkbox that visually hides that field on the page.

  • + Add Mapping to add a row, and a delete (×) button to remove the whole configuration.

  • Default: one empty configuration named “Default” with no mappings.

  • Limit: the number of configurations you can save is capped by plan (1 / 5 / 25). Extra
configurations beyond the cap are dropped on save.

Page scanner (the “Scan page” button)

On each configuration, Scan page opens a modal where you enter a URL or search for a published
page/post, run the scan, pick a detected form, and click Import Selected. The scanner creates one
mapping row per enabled tracking field and auto-matches selectors where your form field names or IDs
contain the parameter name (e.g. utm_source, gclid). Available on all plans.

Note Auto-matching is best-effort. Always confirm the imported selectors point at the right
inputs before saving — see Field mapping & auto-fill.

Privacy page

Consent mode

Radio buttons controlling when the tracker is allowed to store data. Available on all plans.

OptionWhat it does
OffTrack everything immediately, with no consent check.
WP Consent APIWait for consent via the WordPress Consent API standard (works with Complianz, CookieYes, Cookiebot, and others).
ManualStart tracking only when a specific cookie holds a specific value.
  • Default: Off.
  • Selecting Manual reveals two text fields — Cookie Name and Cookie Value. Tracking starts
once that cookie exists with that exact value. Both default to empty.

GDPR “Off” stores visitor data with no consent check. Combined with a submitted form, that data
is personal data — choose a consent mode deliberately if you are subject to GDPR/ePrivacy rules. See
GDPR & consent.

Enable lead tracking (Starter)

When enabled, each submission of a mapped form is stored as a lead in the database and shown on the
Leads page.

  • Default: off.
  • On the free plan this checkbox is shown but disabled, with an upgrade prompt. Lead capture
is reliable for supported AJAX form plugins and best-effort for redirect/unknown forms — see
    Managing leads.

Auto-delete leads after N months (Starter)

Automatic retention cleanup for stored leads, found under Lead Tracking on the Privacy page.

  • Default: 0.
  • Range: 0–120. 0 = never auto-delete; any value from 1 to 120 deletes leads older than that
many months. Cleanup runs once daily.

Warning Auto-deleted leads are removed permanently. Confirm your retention number before saving.

Tools page

Debug overlay

A frontend overlay that shows all stored values, matched selectors, and fill status — useful for
verifying a setup.

  • Default: off. Available on all plans.
  • The overlay renders only for logged-in administrators, so it is safe to leave on during testing.
Turn it off for production (see Before you go live).

Settings Export / Import (Starter)

AJAX buttons (below the Debug Mode form) for moving your configuration between sites.

  • Export Settings downloads all current SmartDingo Form Tracker settings as a JSON file.
  • Import Settings uploads a previously exported JSON file. Importing overwrites all current
    settings.
  • Requires a Starter or Pro plan; on the free plan the buttons appear but the action is rejected.

Note Export/import covers plugin settings only — it does not move captured leads. Chart colors
are included only when exporting from a Pro site.

on every paid plan.
